Yeah, I play games. All kinds of games. PC RPGs, MMOs, table-top RPGs, the (very) occasional casual game, even bored games (yeah, I spelled it that way on purpose). I’ve been playing games all of my life. And, for much of my life, being a gamer came with a side of derision by my peers and elders. In contrast, it’s not hard to find evidence these days to support the notion that gaming is good for you. I’m glad that others may not face the stigma I’ve faced.

But there’s an entirely other reason for gaming. All games have a story, an inherit narrative. Admittedly, some of the stories are weak, while others are strong. I like the storytelling that comes out of games. It gives the player agency which is difficult to do in book or film. I don’t mean to say that this is a better form of storytelling, just different… and inspiring.

My creative juices can often be boosted by merely playing some games. What about you? Do you play games? Do you find gaming inspiring?
